XXVII International EUCARPIA Symposium Section Ornamentals
Italy, and specifically Genoa in the Liguria region, will be hosting the XXVIIth International EUCARPIA Symposium Section Ornamentals, from 2nd to 5th July 2023. Genova is a historic port city nestled at the top of the Riviera Ligure arc on the shores of the Mediterranean. It is the capital of the region where floriculture plays an important role impacting the national economy. In the Ligurian Riviera, illustrious families and landscape architects have created splendid gardens; botanists and agronomists have introduced countless species to acclimate; breeders have created new hybrids and selected new varieties. Alongside the great variety of ornamental production, Liguria has natural conditions, with three biogeographical regions (Mediterranean, Alpine and Continental) that determine an exceptionally rich biodiversity, to be protected, but also to be enhanced.
My Co-Convenor, Dr. Margherita Beruto, and I are delighted and honored to warmly invite you to participate in this Symposium. The Symposium is endorsed by the Università degli Studi di Genova (UNIGE; https://unige.it/), the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding (EUCARPIA ; https://www.eucarpia.eu/) and the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS; https://www.ishs.org/).
We would like to thank all the members of the Organizing and the Scientific Committee for their support; we believe that we all will contribute to organize a symposium which will leave good memories and professional profit to all of you.
Therefore, we hope that you could schedule to come to Genoa and to present your research at the symposium, participating in the discussion on the latest findings of the Ornamental sector about the key themes of the symposium summarized in the title “From Nature to Culture: Breeding Ornamentals for Sustainability”. You will have the possibility to enjoy a stimulating field day and to interact with colleagues and professionals from around the world, expanding your professional networking. The Symposium will provide an opportunity for renewing personal engagement between researchers, academics and industry technical experts under a beautiful naturalistic and historical frame and with a sunny climate. Liguria region is a tourism destination well appreciated (https://www.italia.it/en/liguria). We are scheduling a post-tour symposium to visit our Riviera beloved by the writers that have told its story to the world and we hope that you could join it too.
We look forward to welcoming you in Genoa, Italy!
